DESCRIPTION:Come birding with us to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day! Black Lake is a rare desert wetland north of Benton in Adobe Valley that is an important stopover site for migratory birds. The alkali lakes and wetlands in Adobe Valley provide a great environment for our feathered friends to rest and refuel during migration. \nJoin ESLT and the Eastern Sierra Bird Alliance (ESBA) for a morning of birdwatching at a rare sparkling wetland in Adobe Valley – ESLT’s Black Lake Preserve. In honor of World Migratory Bird Day\, we will learn all about the migrating species that visit this lake and those that call it home. All birding levels are welcome\, and kids are encouraged to attend. Binoculars and birding guides provided.

DESCRIPTION:Sierra Forever is excited to announce that we will be offering a monthly FREE nature journaling workshop held at a different location in the Eastern Sierra each month. \nThe April workshop will be on Sunday\, April 27 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Buckley Ponds in Bishop. We will meet by the South Pond fishing platform located at 37.33426\, -118.331887. Please note that you do drive a short distance on dirt roads to access this location\, but they are graded and accessible to any vehicle. \nWhether you’re an avid artist or just starting out\, nature journaling is a powerful tool to deepen your observations and connect more intimately with the natural world. In this workshop\, we’ll explore techniques for sketching\, note-taking\, and recording field observations. No prior art or writing experience is necessary—just bring your curiosity! \nSupplies will be provided\, but you are encouraged to bring your own sketchbook and favorite supplies if you have them. \nDress in layers\, wear sturdy walking/hiking shoes\, and practice sun and wind protection by wearing a hoodie\, or hat and sunscreen. Bring drinking water and a snack. A camp chair or folding chair is recommended. \nCome ready to observe\, sketch\, and discover the beauty of the Eastern Sierra through journaling! The 2024 Manzanar At Dusk program will also be held following the 56th Annual Manzanar Pilgrimage. \nManzanar was the first of the ten American concentration camps in which more than 125\,000 Japanese Americans and their immigrant parents were unjustly incarcerated during World War II. \nPeople from all walks of life attend the Manzanar Pilgrimage each year\, including students\, teachers\, community members\, clergy\, and former incarcerees. Planning is underway for this year’s program. \nFor the daytime Pilgrimage program\, cultural performances will begin at 11:30 AM\, while the main portion of the program begins at 12:00 PM.
