SUMMARY:Bristlecone Chapter of CNPS and the Master Gardener Program presents: Monarch Butterfly Garden Design
DESCRIPTION:Join Inyo & Mono Master Gardener\, Jeff Gabriel\, for a workshop on Monarch Butterfly Garden Design. Jeff is currently developing a monarch butterfly waystation garden at the Bishop Community Garden. He is the executive director of Sierra Forever and holds degrees in wildlife biology\, political science\, and a master’s in public administration\, with an emphasis in agricultural policy\, all from Kansas State University. \nWhy a butterfly garden? The Xerces Society recorded in 2024\, that the Western Monarch Butterfly population was at its second lowest overwintering population\, since 1997. We can help by creating monarch butterfly gardens in our flower beds\, patio containers\, or along the borders of our vegetable gardens. All are good options. Learn what milkweed varieties our local Western Monarch butterfly gardens should include\, along with other plants to attract and feed a wide range of pollinators\, including bees\, hummingbirds\, and butterflies. Jeff’s discussion will include soil preparation\, irrigation\, growth habits of the milkweeds\, pesticide use\, and fall/winter care. \nLocation: White Mountain Research Station\nAddress: 3000 East Line St\, Bishop (south classroom)
