SUMMARY:Laws Railroad Museum Celebration for Women's History Month
DESCRIPTION:The Laws Railroad Museum’s Train Crew is Celebrating Inyo County’s Anniversary\, and National Women’s History Month March 22\, with rides on the historic 1927 Death Valley Brill railcar\, children’s activities in the Engine House\, and Engine House docents to provide updates on the restoration of the 1909 “Slim Princess” steam locomotive. \nTickets for Brill Car rides are $8.00 per adult\, $4.00 for young people under 18\, unless they are three and under in which case they ride free.  Well behaved leashed or contained pets are welcome to ride free\, and the railcar is accessible to all. In honor of Womens’ history month\,  docents aboard the Brill Car will focus their presentations on women in nineteenth Century railroading and mining. Train tickets are good for rides all day as long as the train is running. \n  \nBrill Car operation will be between 10:00 and 3:00\, contingent upon weather and operator availability.  The Museum is open 10:00-4:00 and is located at 200 Silver Canyon Road off Hwy 6.

DESCRIPTION:Join Inyo & Mono Master Gardener\, Jeff Gabriel\, for a workshop on Monarch Butterfly Garden Design. Jeff is currently developing a monarch butterfly waystation garden at the Bishop Community Garden. He is the executive director of Sierra Forever and holds degrees in wildlife biology\, political science\, and a master’s in public administration\, with an emphasis in agricultural policy\, all from Kansas State University. \nWhy a butterfly garden? The Xerces Society recorded in 2024\, that the Western Monarch Butterfly population was at its second lowest overwintering population\, since 1997. We can help by creating monarch butterfly gardens in our flower beds\, patio containers\, or along the borders of our vegetable gardens. All are good options. Learn what milkweed varieties our local Western Monarch butterfly gardens should include\, along with other plants to attract and feed a wide range of pollinators\, including bees\, hummingbirds\, and butterflies. The event starts Friday afternoon\, April 11\, goes all day April 12\, including the dinner\, and concludes the morning of April 13. The locomotive is housed at the Eastern California Museum\, 155 N.
