Pleasant Valley Reservoir

This deep body of water weaves down the narrow mouth of the Owens Gorge canyon. The walls rise several hundred feet above the lake and on calm days the water is mirror-like. The dam that created this reservoir was built in the 1950s by the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power (LADWP) for water storage and has become a very popular year-round angling area.

The road alongside the east shore of the reservoir is closed to vehicle traffic and it’s a great place for a walk or bike ride on a cool day. Spring is especially lovely here as wildflowers begin to bloom on the tablelands above the canyon and birdlife is abundant in the canyon.

It’s an outstanding year-round fishery.
