Spending time in the great outdoors is good for you. Scientifically proven. In fact, it’s noted to have healing powers. Not some magical potion but real-life benefits for the mind and body. Your mood will improve. Immune system boosted and even increase anti-cancer proteins. The cozy town of Bishop and our big backyard welcome everyone to reap these rewards and so much more. To ensure that you can include everyone in your travel planning, here are some ideas.

Catch The ‘Big’ One

The Eastern Sierra is legendary for its fishing. We even have our own special Sierra Grand Slam – where anglers attempt to catch all the native trout species in one day. Throughout Owens Valley there are specially designed all-inclusive accessible piers including one at Convict Lake, Intake II, Buckley Ponds and June Lake.

Take In Mother Nature’s Power

Many of the most popular sights and attractions throughout our area are accessible via one of our paved paths including the Hot Creek Geological Site. The short but steep 0.2-mile trail provides a glimpse into one of the natural phenomena that created Bishop’s big backyard. Boiling water bubbles up from the creek bed, fumaroles let off steam, and periodic geyser eruptions can create new hot springs overnight.

Small Town – Big Accessibility

The easy access doesn’t just stop in the great outdoors. You’ll find the heart of Bishop provides easy access on safe sidewalks to shops, restaurants, and entertainment facilities. This list includes one of our personal favorites – the Bishop Twin Theatre. Wheelchair spaces and transfer chairs are available in both auditoriums. They even have assisted listening devices as well.

Bishop wants everyone to feel welcome when visiting. Please feel free to stop by our Bishop Visitor Center if you need help on how to plan your trip.
