Bishop Visitor's Center

If you’re a pet parent, one of the first things you’ll want to know about an area before you pay it a visit, is whether it is pet friendly or not.

We know that your dog is a part of your family, and when you travel to new places you want to bring him with you to experience the new area.

Therefore it’s important that there are dog-friendly restaurants, hotels and plenty of great areas to go for a walk.

Bishop is a very dog-friendly city with plenty of places to keep you and your four-legged friend happy. Here are three things to do with your pup while you’re visiting Bishop.

Play in the Park

If you don’t have time to take your dog out to one of the wonderfully wild places which surrounds Bishop in every direction, then Bishop has a great dog park. Bishop Dog Park is a non-profit corporation which provides a safe, well-maintained and fenced place where dogs can play and exercise off-leash.

The dog park offers two different areas, one for small dogs and one for large dogs. This is a great place to go and let some steam off with your dog, take a frisbee or ball and you could spend hours playing fetch.

There are a few rules to bear in mind when using Bishop Dog Park with your pooch. Your dog must be licensed and vaccinated, they must also be leashed when entering and exiting the park. Dogs must be well behaved and removed from the park at the first sign of aggression. You also can’t take puppies under four months old or any food into the dog park.

Beer Tasting with your Best Tail-Wagger

If you’re looking for somewhere to eat and you’re a beer lover, you’ll be happy to hear that Mountain Rambler Brewery allows you to bring along any well behaved dogs.

This small mountain town brewery also has a restaurant so you can grab a bite to eat whilst tasting some world class craft beer. They usually have around 6 beers on tap at any one time, and they are changed every week or two.

They also host special events from time to time so if you get lucky you and your dog might be able to experience one of those.

There are also plenty of other options for dining out with your dog.

Staying Over with your Pooch

There are also a good number of dog friendly places to stay in Bishop, some charge a fee and others
don’t. Here are a few popular options:

    • The Vagabond Inn is a modern and convenient hotel has plenty of comfortable rooms and also a dog playground area.
    • El Rancho Motel is located within walking distance of Bishop Dog Park.
    • The Trees Motel has a rustic feel to it, and they offer rooms with kitchenettes if you plan on staying for a little longer.
    • The Cielo Hotel is a pet-friendly stylish and modern hotel ideally located to allow you and your dog to explore the surrounding areas.
    • The Holiday Inn Express is located just next to Bishop City Park.

Visiting Bishop with Your Dog

Known as being a small town with a big backyard, there are plenty of beautiful walks to enjoy in the surrounding area, such as in Inyo Forest.

However, if you’re looking for something a bit closer to Bishop, there are a few different canal walks on the outskirts.

As always, when visiting anywhere in or on the outskirts of Bishop, it’s really important to abide by each places specific pet rules, and general dog etiquette.

Always pick up after your dog, even when you’re out in natural places in the middles of nowhere. Keep your pooch on a leash when you’re in Bishop, and ensure that you are always respectful of other people, animals and wildlife.
