Celebrate Mother’s Day In Bishop’s Big Backyard
Don’t buy another box of chocolates and skip the flowers. So, what should you get Mom on Mother’s Day that she’ll cherish more than anything? Spending time with her family! Make it a full day of fun or better yet a weekend of activities that she’ll remember forever. Here are a few ideas to spark your inspiration.
A Mother’s Day Trail Run/Hike
Since it’s the entire family, find a hike that is less suffer fest and more a stroll in Mother Nature. An opportunity to take in the wildflowers blooming and chat about life. Maybe even catch a glimpse of cubs, kits, or pups frolicking about. Most of all, make sure that everyone enjoys themselves. To help find that perfect trail run or hike, here are a few of our personal favorite new loops in Bishop’s Big Backyard.
Tungsten City

This four-mile loop just outside of Bishop winds its way through sage and boulders, giving enough of a challenge to get the heart rate going but not brutally long. Throughout the trail, you’re rewarded with sweeping views of Bishop’s skyline.
Rossi Hill
Learn more about this run/hike
For those that want a birds-eye view of Owens Valley and the White Mountains, this nearby hike is a great option. Just shy of six miles (although it has an elevation gain of over 1,200 feet), it’s mostly rolling hillsides as you navigate your way through the network of trails. Despite the views being stunning, what will really catch your eye is the shapely boulders that sit alongside it.
Al Fresco Dining
Now that you’ve worked up an appetite, it’s time to celebrate with a mouth-watering meal. For a town of less than four thousand, the cuisine at your fingertips is international. From sushi to Basque, you’ll find it here. And the best part? With plenty of sunshine and great weather, you can dine outside any time of year, especially in the spring.
With Mother’s Day right around the corner, don’t let another year pass by without celebrating her the right way… with a day in Bishop. We guarantee she won’t forget it, and neither will you.
