Christmas Cheer

A horse-drawn carriage adorned with festive decorations is carrying a group of bundled-up people. The scene, reminiscent of Bishop, California, is set in a rustic area with bare trees and wooden buildings in the background, under a cloudy sky. visit bishop

This time of year, especially around the holidays, it can be stressful and even hectic as you prepare for Santa’s big day. Why not combine the joyful spirit of the holiday season with a short break to Bishop’s big backyard. Your family will come home with renewed energy, lifelong memories, and most of all, lots of smiles on your faces.

Christmas Holiday Festival… Ahead Of Time

Start the season off right by visiting on the 1st weekend of December for our Christmas Holiday Festival. On Saturday, December 7th, the festivities kick off  in Bishop with a Santa Fun Run at 4:15 pm followed by the Main Street Parade at 4:30 pm. We then finish it off with the Christmas Tree lighting at 5:30 pm.

All About The Railroad Express

Take a step back in time to the late 19th century on Saturday, December 14th at the Laws Railroad Museum. Sip on hot cocoa and ride in a horse-drawn carriage down caroling lane. Get a golden ticket and light up your children’s faces with joy and wonder. This special ticket provides admission to the Railroad Express with Santa’s elves and a merry band of Christmas carolers. It’s a ride into the past and back to the present. And truly is as magical as it sounds. For more about the train ride of the year, who will love it, and what makes it great, check out our visitor host’s in-depth article about the experience.

The “North Pole” Of Owens Valley

Late November to mid-December, the Cardinal Village Resort up in the mountains is where Christmas happens and Santa visits. Go ice skating on Cardinal Pond. Pick up a fresh-cut Noble pine Christmas tree. And even have some snow fun by going sledding, cross-country skiing, or snowshoeing. Be aware that the Cardinal Village Resort is only open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays throughout this time. In addition, Santa visits on Saturdays and Sundays midday.
