Bishop Is Home To The Longest Fall Colors In California

House beside a rocky cliff surrounded by vibrant autumn trees with a small waterfall cascading down the rocks, reminiscent of the serene landscapes near Bishop, California. visit bishop

After a warm summer exploring Bishop’s big backyard, fall is like the cold refreshing pint of beer after a hike. Everything just tastes and feels better. The “bloom” of fall brings a sense of excitement. Mother Nature is letting you know that time is fleeting. That you need to embrace the moment because winter is coming. And here’s how to fall in love with the local’s favorite season.

Take In The Color

Words don’t do it justice. Pictures provide only a snapshot of what to expect. Even videos provide just a small glimpse of the experience to what fall colors are like in the Eastern Sierra. The fresh smell of autumn. The loud sound of aspen leaves quaking in the breeze. The bright yellows shimmering. All senses are alive when you go fall color spotting.

Gateway To Color

The question is where to start. If you hit it right, the ultimate destination is Bishop Creek Canyon. Driving up from Bishop to the chain of lakes in the valley to then hike its premier gateway to fall foliage. Take a gander at Bishop’s page dedicated to all things fall colored.

A Thanksgiving Bounty Of Fun

Besides the display of colors, this is when many activities start to heat up because the weather is cooling down. In fact, fall isn’t just good… it’s fantastic! It’s when you can still get into the high country for a hike or play in the Owens Valley. The entire backyard is at your disposal. This is when bouldering in the Buttermilks begins. Fishing season is at its peak with fish gorging themselves to prepare for winter. To get a grasp of all the fun things you can do this time of year, be sure to check out the Fall is Fantastic Guide.

Bishop might be home to California’s longest fall color showcase, but don’t procrastinate too long because it also has an expiration date.
