Dog Town

Dog Town was a name often given to mining camps where prospectors lived in miserable conditions. It is said that this town also got its name because of the many dogs that lived in the camp. Today little remains of the site except a single grave, the walls of a few stone huts, and roof timbers. It is famous, however, for producing the single largest gold nugget ever found on eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada. Overall though, it’s gold production was not significant. It is registered as California Historical Landmark.
