Spread Cheer And See The Migration

A large flock of seagulls mid-flight against a clear blue sky, wings spread wide as they soar and maneuver together in a dense cluster. The birds appear scattered yet coordinated, creating an intricate pattern over Bishop, California. visit bishop

No matter how you look at it, fall is a transitory season. It’s where summer finally concedes, and winter hasn’t won just yet. A battle of wills climate-wise. Animals become restless and birds have begun their migration to warmer climates. If you love nature, this is THE time to visit Bishop’s Big Backyard.

Next Stop… Owens Lake

Why is it such a great time to visit? It’s around this time of year tens of thousands of shorebirds, waterfowl, and other migratory bird species stop in the area to feed on various bird delicacies like alkali flies and brine shrimp. This means for those who love birding or if you’re just an enthusiastic birdwatcher, this is one of the best times to see these species in person before they fly off to finish their 5,000 mile journey south.

Not Deathly This Time Of Year

In the summer months, Death Valley’s name is appropriate. During mid-day, temperatures regularly hit triple digits often reaching 120 degrees. But by November, it’s a different story. While still warm, longer hikes are now doable. It’s also a shoulder season between the busy periods allowing you to take in some of the unique attractions of Death Valley without the crowds.

The Holidays Are Coming

Regardless of your beliefs, this time of year offers us a rare opportunity to join together and spread cheer. A chance for friends and family to enjoy old traditions and create new ones. Bishop starts the season of Christmas Holiday events off right with a Christmas Holiday Festival on Saturday, December 3rd. The festivities begin with a Santa Run followed by the Main Street Parade and finishing off with a Christmas Tree Lighting. Then the next weekend on Saturday, December 10th is the Railroad Express at the Laws Railroad Museum. This is your opportunity to get a golden ticket and light up a child’s face with joy and wonder.
