Your gateway to the Eastern Sierra starts at the Bishop Airport (BIH), right here in Bishop. United Airlines offers seasonal flights from San Francisco (SFO) and Denver (DEN), making it easier than ever to get here from almost anywhere.

These short flights connect visitors to Bishop’s big backyard — from Yosemite to Death Valley and everywhere in between. In under an hour, you can trade city streets for wide-open spaces, where fishing, hiking, climbing, and exploring are all just minutes from the airport.

• Wi-Fi access: Complimentary internet service is available throughout the terminal.
• Charging stations: Limited outlets are available near the gate area.

Ground Transportation

Once you arrive, it’s easy to get around Bishop and the Eastern Sierra. Choose from several options to fit your travel style:

• Rentals – Enterprise Car Rentals are available at Bishop Airport (reservations recommended).
• ESTA Dial-A-Ride – Convenient on-demand transit is available in Bishop, Lone Pine, and Mammoth Lakes through ESTA’s Dial-A-Ride service. • Taxi – Mammoth Taxi provides service between Bishop and Mammoth Lakes. Call ahead for reservations 760-924-8294.
• Shuttle – Mammoth All Weather Shuttle (MAWS) provides scheduled point-to-point transfers between Bishop Airport (BIH), and Mammoth Lakes—including bookable shared-ride seats or private shuttles for groups of up to 5, 11, or 25 guests. Advanced reservations are highly recommended (walk-ups may be accepted but are not guaranteed during busy periods); book online at mawshuttle.com or call 760-709-2927.
• Rideshare – No Uber or Lyft at Bishop Airport (updated 10/15/24). Note: the apps may show rides available, but will not allow you to actually book the service.
• YARTS (Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System) – Offers daily summer service from Mammoth Lakes, June Lake, and Lee Vining into Yosemite Valley. Visit yarts.com for full details.
  Note: Tioga Pass (Highway 120) is typically closed from November through late May due to snow, and YARTS service into Yosemite is not available during that time.

Eastern Sierra Transit

Want to sit back and enjoy the ride? The Eastern Sierra Transit Authority (ESTA) offers reliable, affordable bus service to Bishop and surrounding towns. Long-distance routes connect Reno, NV and Lancaster, CA, while local routes run up and down US 395, linking communities like Lone Pine, Bishop, and Mammoth Lakes.

Traveling with ESTA is easy and accessible:
Service animals are welcome, and other animals may ride if they’re caged or muzzled. Buses are equipped with bike racks that fit most standard bicycles (20–29 inch wheels), though recumbent and fat-tire bikes won’t fit. Passengers can reserve seats in advance with a credit card — fares are charged at booking and can be canceled up to 24 hours before departure with a small fee. Cash fares are accepted onboard (exact change, please), and credit cards are accepted on the US 395 routes.
