Artist Topah Spoonhunter will be discussing his new gallery wall show, which is now on display at Manzanar National Historic Site.  His pieces explore themes if Indigenous existence in Payahuunadu (the land of flowing water), what is now known as the Owens Valley.

Volunteer Opportunity at Manzanar

Join an Archeological Dig!  Under the supervision of NPS Archeologist Jeff Burton, you will help uncover and preserve features from the Children's Village, home to 101 children and the only orphanage in all of the 10 incarceration camps.  It is open to anyone age 15+ able to do moderately strenuous work such as digging with shovels, hauling rocks, operating wheelbarrows, screening sediments, taking notes and filling out forms/labels.  Previous experience helpful but not necessary.  All you need is an interest in history and willingness to ge dirty. Annual Manzanar Pilgrimage

Manzanar National Historic Site 5001 HWY 395, Independence, CA

The annual pilgrimage is held every year on the last Saturday of April at the northwest corner of the former camp site, near the cemetery monument. The Manzanar National Historic site is approximately 210  miles north of Los Angeles, along Highway 395 and takes approximately 4 1/2 hours driving time.  Manzanar is located between Lone Pine and Independence.  It is on the west side of Highway 395,  approximately 9 miles north of Lone Pine on your left.
