6 Things To Do In Bishop With Kids
Family vacations are about relaxing as well as creating memories of fun times. When it comes to a destination to visit, there might be none more suited for an affordable outdoorsy family getaway than Bishop and its big backyard. To help plan your trip, here’s 6 things to do in Bishop with kids that will make both you AND your kids happy.
Take A Dip In Keough Hot Springs
Every kid enjoys splashing about in water. It engages their senses – touch, sound, and sight creating a gleeful experience. Keough Hot Springs’ large Olympic size pool in any season is worth a visit. In the summer, their pool is kept at a comfy 86 – 89 degrees, allowing you to cool off during the season’s hot days.
Saddle On Up Your Cowpokes
For those kids that love animals, make a dream a reality and get them on a horse. Bishop and its big backyard are home to pack outfits that specifically cater to kids. From a fifteen minute intro ride to a three day outing geared towards families, horseback riding in the Sierra is a must.
Hook Them On Fishing
Passing on the experience and companionship of fishing is one of the oldest family traditions out there. With Owens Valley being home to some of the best waterways in the world for it, it’s the perfect place to etch that first memory in your children’s minds. Enjoy A Matinee
Going to the movies in a big city is as expensive as going to a ball game. Not so in Bishop. Give yourself a break from the mid-day heat AND enjoy a bit of movie magic at the Bishop Twin Theatre. Matinee tickets are ONLY FIVE BUCKS! Then finish off with some scrumptious frozen yogurt next door.
All Aboard To Laws Railroad Museum
Here’s a fact for you – kids LOVE trains. Head a few miles northeast to Laws Railroad Museum. Back in 1883, it was the location of the Bishop Creek Railroad Depot which connected the Eastern Sierra. It has now become home to many historical treasures including the Death Valley Brill Car No. 5. They offer train rides on this historic steam engine throughout the summer. Burn Off Some Energy With Bouldering
If you’re constantly yelling at your kiddos to get off that couch or bookcase, then bouldering is a perfect outlet for them. It requires them to be highly focused for a short period of time and an opportunity to burn off some energy. If you want a bit more supervision and coaching for their first time, hit up Bishop’s Sage To Summit Rock Climbing Gym instead.
