Canal Walk E. Line St.

The Bishop Creek Canals are favorite paths for easy walks, runs, and bike rides. Close to downtown Bishop are several easily accessible trails along flat, graded dirt roads. They follow the twists and turns of the canals and waterways that run in and around town, and offer panoramic views of the two majestic mountain ranges on either side of the Owens Valley. These are well suited to a quick ‘stretch-your-legs’ walk or a longer walk for a little solitude. Link the paths together for easy dirt-track running or biking. It’s safe and fun with kids and pets.

Try this path at E. Line St. just a half-mile from the intersection of Main and Line St. in downtown Bishop. Park in the clearing just east of the bridge and access the path through the pedestrian gate to follow the canal south through the open fields.

Be aware that these are multi-use tracks frequented by runners, mountain-bikers, anglers, and the occasional vehicle. Some of the adjacent fields are open range for small herds of cattle at times. Also look for deer in winter and many species of birds year-round.
