The Owens Valley Paiute Shoshone Cultural Center is please to showcase local artist, Seth Tsosie from the Lone Pine Paiute Tribe.  He will be on site to demonstrate traditional net-weaving, cordage on Saturday followed by pottery on Sunday for museum guests.  Admission is free, but donations are appreciated, so bring your friends and Family and experience the cultural heritage of the Paiute/Shoshone people.

Solar Eclipse Viewing Event

On October 14th, the solar eclipse will start at approximately 8:06 am, peak at 9:23 am, and end at 10:48 am in the Eastern Sierra, with 80% coverage of the sun, creating dusk-like conditions. Join an ESIA interpretive specialist for a talk and witness one of the celestial events of the year! 9 am: Mobius Arch Trailhead Parking, Alabama Hills. Solar glasses and an eclipse projector will be provided for viewing, paired with a short talk about the phenomenon.

Hand Car Rides at Laws Railroad Museum & Historical Site

Hand cars came to the railroad industry in the 1860s, allowing workers to maintain track more efficiently. Initially, most railroads designed and built their own hand cars, but by the 1880s, hand cars became available commercially. Join our train restoration shop docents afterwards to learn more about our trains, their history, and the use of the telegraph in early railroad days. Save time to visit the Mining display where our docents will fire up the equipment and let you crush rocks!
