Climber Current Conditions Report by Climbing Rangers: MAY 11, 2024

Conditions Report time! Gooooooooooood afternoon Payahuunadu! 📣

CONDITIONS REPORT! 📣

Hope you have some adventures planned… because it’s looking like we are going to have a wonderful weekend of weather ahead☀️ The steady march of green traveling up the veins of aspens leading into the high country means summer isn’t far away! The blooms are bloomin’, the fish are hungry, and the rock is just begging to be climbed! So go get out there! 🧗 🚴 🎣
Here’s da latest:

Pine Creek:
Highs are expected to reach into the high 50’s/low 60’s so shady climbing is going to be a bit chilly. Bring those puffy jackets and pants for those long belays. 🥶 Sunny crags however just might provide those perfect Goldilocks conditions. Be wary of the deer migration happening as you drive in and out of the canyon. 🦌 Drive slow and stay alert!

Owen’s River Gorge:
It’s getting hot… but not too hot yet! Get after it while you can. Plan to chase the shade and be careful crossing the river!

Volcanic Tablelands:
Hot. Very hot. 😓 With highs in the 70’s, the best conditions will be found early morning or late in the evening. Come join us for some thistle pulling THIS Sunday 8-11am in the Happy boulders. We need all the help we can get! 💪

Buttermilks:

Again, plan for early morning and evening to have the best conditions. Please walk to the Pollen Grains and Get Carter Boulder from the main parking area while we wait for the road to be repaired.

Climber Current Conditions Report by Climbing Rangers: APRIL 26, 2024

Conditions Report time! Gooooooooooood afternoon Payahuunadu! 📣

Thank you all for patiently awaiting our conditions report! It’s getting hot out there, but good climbing conditions still abound. 🧗 As you are out, take time to appreciate all of the emerging life and wonders of the Eastern Sierra that come this time of year! Let’s all take care of this spectacular but fragile place.

Here’s the latest:

Buttermilk Country: With highs in the upper 50’s/lower 60’s, surprisingly pleasant conditions are forecasted ahead as Buttermilk season winds down. It might be a bit gusty so make sure your spotter doesn’t let those pads fly away once you are high off the deck 😬. Until road crews fix access to the Pollen Grains and Get Carter Boulder, please walk from main parking lot by the bathrooms. We will have to restore extensive damage left behind from folks driving around the mud hole. There’s lots of rattlers 🐍 out there so stay alert and keep pets and children closely supervised.

Volcanic Tablelands: Once again, the best climbing conditions are likely to be found early in the day or in the evening/night. Beware of the many rattlesnakes out and about in the Tablelands, especially at night.

Owens River Gorge: It’s getting hot, but gorge season hasn’t ended yet! Plan to chase the shade and start early. The river has been flowing pretty high as of late so take care crossing the river to access your favorite crags.

Pine Creek: Pine Creek season is here! …And so are the crowds! With highs in the lower 50’s, expect chilly climbing at Pine Creek’s shadier crags. We have seen evidence of some significant rock fall events, especially  between the “Trailer Park” and “Oser Wall”. Be alert and it’s not a bad idea to keep those helmets on. Mule Deer are frequenting the area as they start to migrate up to their higher elevation summer ranges. Drive slow and be aware as you enter and exit the canyon. 🚗 🦌  The porta-potty has not been installed yet so please bring a wag bag with ya! 💩 💼
