The Eastern Sierra Observatory will host a California Dark Sky Festival October 12th through October 15th in Panamint Valley. The event will feature huge telescopes, lectures, photography workshops, a food truck, a giant chess set, camping onsite under dark skies and more.
On October 14th, the solar eclipse will start at approximately 8:06 am, peak at 9:23 am, and end at 10:48 am in the Eastern Sierra, with 80% coverage of the sun, creating dusk-like conditions. Join an ESIA interpretive specialist for a talk and witness one of the celestial events of the year! 9 am: Mobius Arch Trailhead Parking, Alabama Hills. Solar glasses and an eclipse projector will be provided for viewing, paired with a short talk about the phenomenon.
A campaign is in place to create the Amargosa Basin National Monument and Susan Sorrells, President of Friends of the Amargosa Basin, is sharing the news at a special presentation in Bishop the evening of October 18.
